Pet Photography
Pet photography is a real fun. Some pets are totally obedient, and they are easier to shoot but some, especially younger ones are beyond your control. They are the subject, which are as difficult as a wild life photography.
This genre of photography falls in between a child photography and wild life. However, if your pet is well trained and not very hyper, then it will take your directions and the shoot will be comparatively easy.
Pet always gives an innocent expression even if it is posing. Be sure to give some fundamental training of animal behavior, and for which, you may have to take a service of a professional.
Dogs can have various psychological problems, which can be sorted out with the help of an expert. Cats are slightly different. This animal is probably the only one, which has one to one relation with man kind. If they are friendly, they will give classical shots. Others will show attitude.
Always take care of the mood of a pet. Select such a time, when they are relaxed. Feed them before shoot.
Some pets are trained to perform various task and activities. Few of them are well trained to perform a stunt. These are actually animal "models", which can be hired for a particular assignment.
As these type of animals are well experienced with shooting environment, we can use studio lights and setup. In case of our own domestic pets, light and other equipment is a tension for an animal. So shoot it with available light. However, in both case, use a moderate tele lens, so that you can maintain a distance.
Lower shooting angle is preferable, especially for animal portrait. Soft light and soft focus filter will help in photographs of kittens and cats, whereas dogs and other animals can be shot without a soft focus filter. All other techniques in pet photography are almost the same as a child and baby shoot. However, if the pet is not that obedient or tamed, then you have to follow tips of wild life and sports photography.
Photograph of pets has a good demand for calendars and posters.
