Fashion Photography

Fashion photography falls in the category, where most professional photographers are specialized. Days are gone when this application of photography was considered as cheap. Now it is in highest demand and profitable genre of photography. Apart from fashion magazine, there is a good demand for fashion shoot, for calendars and posters.

Hardly fashion or glamour photography is shot by amateur or a new comer in modeling world. When we are doing model photography, we are working with the best of models, make-up artists, hair dressers and art directors for the given budget. Whether it is in a studio or on outdoor locations, we have to plan out the entire shoot meticulously, for minute of details, be it for props, spots and background. Involvement of art director will ease out our task. We can also get a service from a model coordinator, who will take full responsibility of transport, props and other refreshment items.

It is always better to visit the location of shoot in advance and study the lighting. There should be facility of changing room for changing clothes and doing make-up or we may have to hire a vanity van.

Fashion shoot can be done with low key lighting but high key or normal lighting has its own impact. It can be done in black and white or sepia tone, which has its own uniqueness in terms of visual story. This genre has lots of creative possibilities, which we must explore.

Electrical connection should be available for flash or other lights or we may have to hire a generator van.

Taking all legal permissions is a must. If we are shooting on a public road, we have to get permission from the concerned authority or be ready to face cops.

Most of bridges, dams, airports, docks, railway stations and railway lines are prohibited for photography without special permission. Never attempt to shoot even with a compact camera (or mobile phone camera) in defense area.

Other rules of fashion photography are simple. Choice of location and props depends on personal liking and story, but always go for the best. There are many shops who will willingly give props on hire if you approach them properly.
